ABSTRACT Non-destructive tests that use the principle of wave propagation have the potential to predict the mechanical properties of wood while still in the field, if the variables of this process are known. This work aimed to estimate the modulus of elasticity to static bending of Eucalyptus sp. wood, using two non-destructive techniques: ultrasound and stress wave. For this, 60 specimens with nominal dimensions of 2.5 x 2.5 x 57.5 cm (tangential x radial x longitudinal) were used, being in equilibrium humidity. The non-destructive tests were carried out using an ultrasound and a stress wave equipment, while the destructive static bending tests were carried out in a universal testing machine. The experimental results showed that the elastic modulus obtained by the non-destructive techniques were superior to that obtained by the destructive technique. The adjusted mathematical models presented standard error of the estimate (Syx) of 11.39 and 10.78%. There was a positive mean correlation between the static and dynamic module. Stress wave and ultrasound techniques can be used to estimate the modulus of elasticity of Eucalyptus sp.

RESUMO Os ensaios não destrutivos que utilizam o princípio de propagação de ondas têm potencial para predizer as propriedades mecânicas da madeira ainda em campo, se conhecida as variáveis deste processo. Este trabalho teve o objetivo de estimar o módulo de elasticidade à flexão estática da madeira de Eucalyptus sp., por meio de duas técnicas não destrutivas: ultrassom e stress wave. Para tal foram usados 60 corpos de provas com dimensões nominais de 2,5 x 2,5 x 57,5 cm (tangencial x radial x longitudinal), estando na umidade de equilíbrio. Os testes não destrutivos foram realizados por meio de um equipamento de ultrassom e um de ondas de tensão, enquanto que os testes destrutivos de flexão estática foram realizados em uma máquina universal de ensaios. Os resultados experimentais mostraram que os módulos de elasticidade obtidos pelas técnicas não destrutivas foram superiores à obtida pela técnica destrutiva. Os modelos matemáticos ajustados apresentaram erro padrão da estimativa (Syx) de 11,39 e 10,78%. Logo, houve correlação média positiva entre o módulo estático e dinâmico. As técnicas de ondas de tensão e ultrassom podem ser empregadas com o intuito de estimar o módulo de elasticidade da madeira de Eucalyptus sp.

ABSTRACT The Sonoran semi-desert with its stressful conditions of high temperature, salinity and drought affect the plant physiological performance and productivity. In this region, a study was carried out with the aim of evaluating the dynamics of leaf development, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), leaf senescence time and primary productivity of Parkinsonia aculeata L. Sp. Pl. in three sites there where high temperatures conditions prevail. It was found that heat does not affect the development dynamics nor leaves length, however, drought does, reducing their development rate to 0.2 cm day-1. The NDVI was more affected by drought condition, with values lower than 0.79. Salinity caused leaves senescence at 67 days. Parkinsonia aculeata L. Sp. Pl. presented higher primary productivity under heat condition, generating 116 g m-2 month-1.

RESUMEN El semidesierto de Sonora con sus condiciones estresantes de altas temperaturas, salinidad y sequía afectan el desempeño fisiológico y la productividad de las plantas. En esta región se realizó un estudio con el objetivo de evaluar la dinámica del desarrollo de las hojas, el NDVI (Índice de Vegetación de Diferencia Normalizada), el tiempo de senescencia de las hojas y la productividad primaria de Parkinsonia aculeata L. Sp. Pl. en tres sitios donde prevalecen condiciones de altas temperaturas, salinidad y sequía. Se encontró que las altas temperaturas no afectan la dinámica del desarrollo ni la longitud de las hojas, sin embargo, la sequía reduce sí, reduciendo su ritmo de desarrollo a 0.2 cm día-1. La condición de sequía fue la que más afectó el NDVI se afecta más por la condición de sequía, con valores inferiores al 0.79. La salinidad causó la senescencia de las hojas a los 67 días. Parkinsonia aculeata L. Sp. Pl. presentó mayor productividad primaria en la condición de calor, generando 116 g m-2 mes-1.

ABSTRACT The tropical forest is extremely exploited and fragmented, making it essential to collect native seeds to meet the growing demand for its restoration and maintenance of biodiversity. Thus, the objective is to select potential forest fragments with a higher degree of conservation for seed harvesting, through the use and association of landscape ecology with fuzzy logic. The study was carried out in the watershed of the Itapemirim river. The stages of selection and photointerpretation of the images were carried out; error determination; application of landscape ecology metric indices; application of fuzzy logic in a computational application and validation of the methodology in loco. 7,515 forest fragments were determined, corresponding to 19.21% of the study area, with 89.53% of hits. Fragments smaller than 5 ha are the most fragile and are at risk of extinction, while those larger than 300 ha have a lower risk of extinction, even with the increase in the edge. With the application of fuzzy logic, the mean was between 0.15, standard deviation of 0.24 and the coefficient of variation at 161.73%. Scenario 1 (FLONA of Pacotuba), has 10.25% of families, 25.92% of genera and 33.62% of species more than Scenario 2 (PEAMA Ifes Campus of Alegre), among the identified individuals. The association of landscape ecology techniques and fuzzy logic made it possible to identify fragments with a higher degree of conservation, with potential for harvesting forest seeds.

RESUMO A floresta tropical é extremamente explorada e fragmentada, sendo imprescindível a coleta de sementes nativas, a fim de atender a crescente demanda para sua restauração e manutenção da biodiversidade. Dessa forma, objetiva-se selecionar fragmentos florestais potenciais com maior grau de conservação para a colheita de sementes, via utilização e associação da ecologia da paisagem à lógica Fuzzy. O estudo foi realizado na bacia hidrográfica do rio Itapemirim. Foram realizadas as etapas de seleção e fotointerpretação das imagens; determinação do erro; aplicação dos índices métricos de ecologia da paisagem; aplicação da lógica Fuzzy em aplicativo computacional e validação da metodologia in loco. Foram determinados 7.515 fragmentos florestais, correspondendo a 19,21% da área de estudo, com 89,53% de acertos. Os fragmentos menores que 5 ha são os mais frágeis e possuem risco de extinção, enquanto os maiores que 300 ha possuem menor risco de extinção, mesmo com o aumento da borda. Com a aplicação da lógica Fuzzy, a média ficou entre 0,15, desvio padrão de 0,24 e o coeficiente de variação em 161,73 %. O Cenário 1 (FLONA de Pacotuba) possui 10,25% de famílias, 25,92 % de gêneros e 33,62% de espécies a mais que o Cenário 2 (PEAMA Ifes Campus de Alegre), entre os indivíduos identificados. A associação das técnicas de ecologia da paisagem e lógica Fuzzy possibilitou identificar os fragmentos em maior grau de conservação, com potencial para colheita de sementes florestais.

ABSTRACT The oleoresin from Copaifera multijuga Hayne has great socioeconomic importance for the Amazon region. The objective of this research was to determine how the dendrochronological, dendrometric, edaphic and oleoresin production variables of C. multijuga interact with each other and with the oil production itself. Fourteen individuals were sampled for oleoresin extraction, where dendrometric information was collected and samples were taken from the soil around each tree. A descriptive analysis was performed of the observed variables, applying a principal component analysis of the soil variables, then a Pearson correlation analysis of the soil variables with the dendrometric and oil production variables was performed. A new principal component analysis was performed, including selected soil variables, dendrometric and oleoresin production. The results indicated that the 14 trees analyzed produced oil, with an average production of 226.79 ml ± 126.91. The amount of oil was shown to be negatively correlated with the content of manganese (Mn) in the soil, despite the concentration of Mn not being beyond the tolerable limits for the plants, not representing a risk of toxicity. It should be noted that, in general, a plasticity of copaibeiras was observed to occur in the different concentrations of the analyzed variables, which suggests that this species has adaptability to different soil conditions, although soil attributes showed little influence on oleoresin production.

RESUMO O oleorresina de Copaifera multijuga Hayne apresenta grande importância socioeconômica para região amazônica. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi determinar como as variáveis dendrocronológicas, dendrométricas, edáficas e de produção, interagem entre si, e com a própria produção de oleorresina. Foram amostrados 14 indivíduos para extração do oleorresina, onde foram coletadas informações dendrométricas e realizadas coletas do solo no entorno de cada árvore. Uma análise descritiva foi realizada nas 30 variáveis observadas, sendo aplicada uma análise de componentes principais (ACP) das variáveis do solo. Em seguida, foi exercido uma análise de correlação de Pearson das variáveis do solo com as variáveis dendrométricas e de produção de oleorresina. Uma nova ACP foi executada, incluindo as variáveis de solos selecionadas na primeira ACP, as dendrométricas e produção de oleorresina. Os resultados indicaram que as 14 árvores analisadas produziram óleo, com produção média de 226,79 ml ± 126,91. A quantidade de óleo mostrou estar correlacionada negativamente com o teor de manganês (Mn) no solo, apesar da concentração de Mn não estar além dos limites toleráveis pelas plantas, não representando risco de toxicidade. Há que se destacar que de modo geral observou-se uma plasticidade das copaibeiras em ocorrer nas diversas concentrações das variáveis analisadas, o que sugere que esta espécie possui adaptabilidade para diferentes condições de solo, embora os atributos do solo tenham demonstrado pouca influência na produção de oleorresina.

ABSTRACT Some native species of the Cerrado have great ecological and economic potential. An alternative that aims to contribute to the good performance of post-planting plants is the incorporation of biochar into the soil. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of filter cake biochar as a soil conditioner and its influence on the growth and physiology of macaúba, araçá and cajuzinho do cerrado. The experiments were set up at Fazenda Hamilton de Abreu Navarro, Federal University of Minas Gerais, where the effect of four doses of filter cake biochar (1%, 2%, 4% and 8% v/v) and two treatments were evaluated. control: one with soil correction (7.5 g of GEOX) and mineral fertilization (380 g NPK 4:14:8 per plant) and the other without fertilization. To monitor the performance of the seedlings, evaluations were carried out at 30, 60 and 120 days after transplanting, the physiological parameters (photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, CO2 consumed, internal carbon and electron transport rate), and morphological parameters (height and diameter), at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days after transplanting. At 120 days, the production of shoot, root and total dry biomass was evaluated. For macaúba, the application of biochar, at a dose of 2%, favored its photosynthesis. As for araçá, at 30 days after transplanting, the treatment without fertilization was better for most variables, however the treatments with biochar also had satisfactory results. The cajuzinho from the cerrado also responded positively to the application of biochar at all doses. The physiological and morphological variables responded well to treatments without fertilization and with application of biochar to the soil. Therefore, filter cake biochar can be indicated in the planting of the studied species, as well as the non-application of corrective and mineral fertilizer.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do biochar de torta de filtro como condicionador de solo e sua influência no crescimento e na fisiologia de macaúba, araçá e cajuzinho do cerrado. Os experimentos foram montados na Fazenda Hamilton de Abreu Navarro da UFMG, onde foram avaliados o efeito de quatro doses de biochar de torta de filtro (1%, 2%, 4% e 8% v/v) e dois tratamentos controle: um com correção do solo e adubação mineral, e o outro sem adubação. Para acompanhar o desempenho das mudas, foram realizadas avaliações aos 30, 60 e 120 dias após o transplantio, dos parâmetros fisiológicos (fotossíntese, transpiração, condutância estomática, CO2 consumido, carbono interno e taxa de transporte de elétrons), e morfológicos (altura e diâmetro), aos 30, 60, 90 e 120 dias após o transplantio. Aos 120 dias, avaliou-se a produção de biomassa seca da parte aérea, de raízes e total. Para a macaúba, a aplicação de biochar, na dose de 2%, favoreceu a sua fotossíntese. Já para o araçá, aos 30 dias após o transplantio, o tratamento sem adubação foi melhor para a maioria das variáveis, entretanto os tratamentos com biochar também tiveram resultados satisfatórios. O cajuzinho do cerrado também respondeu positivamente à aplicação de biochar em todas as doses. As variáveis fisiológicas e morfológicas responderam bem aos tratamentos sem adubação e com aplicação de biochar ao solo. Portanto, o biochar de torta de filtro pode ser indicado no plantio das espécies estudadas, assim como a não aplicação de corretivo e fertilizante mineral.

ABSTRACT The use of fire in a controlled way in vegetation can provide positive results, however, it can spread in an uncontrolled way in the area, causing damage in the most diverse aspects. The objective of this research was to evaluate the burning characteristics of species found in the immediate geographical region of Patos when submitted to the action of fire. 10 treatments were evaluated with 3 repetitions, consisting of combustible material from the Caatinga. These materials were collected in 60 kg nylon bags and air-dried for subsequent burning. Flame height and temperature, ignition time and frequency, propagation speed, burning duration, fire intensity and the ash content were evaluated. In the speed of propagation of the flames, we identified statistical superiority of Aristida adscensionis with 0.0335 m s-1, and also in the intensity of the fire, in which 402.43 kcal m-1s-1 were responsible for the classification in very high severity. The maximum burning duration was found in the Anadenanthera colubrina plots, with an average of 24 min. The Mimosa tenuiflora obtained the lowest wood ash content, which is favorable for its energy potential. Cnidoscolus quercifolius is a species of low flammability, in view of the difficulty in igniting and maintaining combustion. Places with the abundant presence of Aristida adscensionis should be monitored frequently for the risk of occurrence of fires, especially in times conditions such as high air temperature and low humidity favorable to the occurrence of fire.

RESUMO O uso do fogo de forma controlada pode fornecer resultados positivos, no entanto, o fogo pode se propagar de forma descontrolada na área, provocando danos nos mais diversos aspectos. O objetivo da pesquisa consistiu em avaliar as características de queima de espécies encontradas na região geográfica imediata de Patos/PB quando submetidas à ação do fogo. Foram avaliadas dez espécies em três repetições, que consistiam no material combustível de espécies encontradas na Caatinga. Esses materiais foram coletados em sacos de náilon de 60 kg e secos ao ar para posterior queima. Avaliaram -se a altura e temperatura das chamas; tempo e frequência de ignição; velocidade de propagação; duração da queima; intensidade do fogo e teor de cinzas. Na velocidade de propagação das chamas identificou-se superioridade da Aristida adscensionis com 0,0335 m s-1, assim como na intensidade do fogo, em que seus 402,43 kcal m-1 s-1 foram responsáveis pela classificação em muito alta severidade. A máxima duração da queima foi encontrada na Anadenanthera colubrina, com 24 min. A Mimosa tenuiflora obteve o menor teor de cinzas, o que é favorável para seu potencial energético. A Cnidoscolus quercifolius é uma espécie de baixa inflamabilidade, tendo em vista a dificuldade de entrar em ignição. Locais com presença abundante de Aristida adscensionis devem ser monitorados frequentemente para o risco de ocorrência de incêndios, principalmente em épocas que condições como a elevada temperatura do ar e baixa umidade favorecem à ocorrência do fogo.

ABSTRACT The quality of wood from the species Cupressus lusitanica Mill. has been explored for the most diverse purposes in recent research, in view of the growth potential already reported for it in the literature, which makes it an option for diversifying the sources of supply of the timber industry in the southern region, currently dependent on few conifer species such as Pinus elliottii and Pinus taeda. This research aimed to evaluate the physical-mechanical properties of plywood panels made with Cupressus lusitanica wood veneers and its combination with P. taeda wood and to compare the results obtained with panels made only with P. taeda and also with the minimum requirements stipulated by the National Wood Quality Program for Pine plywood. Panels with 17 mm thickness, glued with phenolic resin in the weighing of 328 g/m², were evaluated regarding the physical properties of specific mass, moisture content, water absorption, thickness swelling and regarding the mechanical properties in parallel static bending and perpendicular. Thickness swelling did not differ between the evaluated treatments, although they did show differences in terms of water absorption and apparent specific mass at 12% moisture. For the parallel static bending test, the plywood made only from P. taeda wood showed greater stiffness, however an increase in resistance was observed in the combination of this wood with C. lusitanica. Regarding the perpendicular test, the combination of wood from P. taeda and C. lusitanica promoted mechanical properties equivalent to panels of traditional use (P. taeda). The use of the C. lusitanica species and its combination with the P. taeda species proved to be promising in terms of the evaluated physical properties and, in terms of mechanical properties, resulted in lighter panels and resistance equivalent to that registered for panels of P. taeda.

RESUMO A qualidade da madeira da espécie Cupressus lusitanica Mill. tem sido explorada para os mais diversos fins, tendo em vista o potencial de crescimento relatado na literatura, o que a torna uma opção para diversificação das fontes de abastecimento da indústria madeireira na região sul, atualmente dependente de poucas espécies de coníferas, como Pinus elliottii e Pinus taeda. Esta pesquisa objetivou avaliar as propriedades físico-mecânicas de painéis compensados confeccionados com lâminas da madeira de Cupressus lusitanica e combinação desta com a madeira de P. taeda e comparar os resultados obtidos com os painéis confeccionados somente com a madeira de P. taeda e com os requisitos mínimos estipulados pelo Programa Nacional de Qualidade da Madeira para compensado de Pinus. Foram avaliados painéis com 17 mm de espessura, colados com resina fenólica na gramatura de 328 g/m², quanto às propriedades físicas de massa específica, teor de umidade, absorção de água, inchamento em espessura e quanto às propriedades mecânicas em flexão estática paralela e perpendicular à grã. O inchamento em espessura não diferiu entre os tratamentos avaliados, embora tenham apresentado diferença quanto à absorção de água e massa específica aparente a 12% de umidade. Para o ensaio de flexão estática paralela, os compensados apenas da madeira de P. taeda apresentaram maior rigidez, no entanto um aumento da resistência foi observado na combinação desta com a madeira de C. lusitanica. Em relação ao ensaio perpendicular, a combinação da madeira de P. taeda e C. lusitanica promoveu propriedades mecânicas equivalentes aos painéis de uso tradicional (P. taeda). A utilização da espécie C. lusitanica e sua combinação com a espécie P. taeda mostrou-se promissora em relação às propriedades físicas avaliadas e no que se refere às propriedades mecânicas resultaram em painéis mais leves e de resistência equivalente à registrada para os painéis de P. taeda.

ABSTRACT Biometric seed analysis can be used to characterize and differentiate forest species. However, forest species are generally studied using manual methods such as measurements with a digital caliper, which provides a limited amount of information on plant morphological characteristics, whereas agronomic species are analyzed using expensive and often inaccessible equipment. Thus, the objective of the present study was to demonstrate that seed image analysis and processing tools can help characterize and differentiate Brazilian forest species. For this purpose, the seeds of 155 forest species belonging to 42 families were photographed and analyzed to extract data on their morphometric descriptors using a new methodological approach. A total of 18 characteristics were assessed, namely eight dimensions, four shape characteristics, and six color characteristics. A set of approximately 1.827 million data was extracted from 101,521 seed images. Digital image processing efficiently characterized the studied seeds and the obtained characteristics allowed us to differentiate between species, including those belonging to the same botanical family and genus. Therefore, seed image analysis using the proposed methodology can be used to characterize, differentiate, and automatedly identify forest species in Brazil.

RESUMO A análise biométrica de sementes contribui para a caracterização e diferenciação de espécies florestais. Entretanto, os estudos com espécies nativas geralmente utilizam métodos manuais como o paquímetro digital, o qual extrai uma quantidade limitada de características, enquanto espécies agronômicas dispõem de equipamentos caros e pouco acessíveis. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é demonstrar que ferramentas de análise e processamento de imagens de sementes podem auxiliar na caracterização e diferenciação de espécies nativas brasileiras. Para isso, sementes de 155 espécies nativas, distribuídas em 42 famílias botânicas foram fotografadas e analisadas para extração de descritores morfométricos por meio de uma nova abordagem metodológica. Um total de 18 características foram geradas, sendo oito para dimensões, quatro para formato, e seis para cor. Um conjunto de aproximadamente 1,827 milhões de dados foram obtidos a partir 101.521 imagens de sementes. O processamento digital de imagens foi eficiente para a caracterização das sementes nativas, e as características utilizadas permitiram diferenciar as espécies, inclusive àquelas que estão contidas na mesma família botânica e gênero. Portanto, a análise de imagens de sementes pela metodologia proposta contribui para a caracterização, diferenciação e automatização na identificação de espécies florestais nativas do Brasil.

ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to evaluate the reproductive phenology in a Monteverdia ilicifolia plantation, whose seedlings were produced with Trichoderma spp. and vermicompost, in order to identify the moment when the shift to the adult reproductive stage of the species occurs and possible effects of biostimulants on reproductive development of the species. The seedlings was carried out in tubes of 180 cm³ volume in a greenhouse in November 2015. For the Trichoderma spp. assay, three non-commercial strains (T1 and T2: Trichoderma asperelloides; T10: Trichoderma virens) inoculated in commercial substrate and one treatment without Trichoderma (control) were tested, comprising four treatments with five replications each, totaling 20 plants. For the vermicompost assay, different proportions of vermicompost and non-sterile soil were tested. The percentages of vermicompost evaluated were: 0; 20; 40; 50; 60 and 80% in relation to the non-sterile soil (treatments T0, T20, T40, T50, T60 and T80), being tested ten replications per treatment, totaling 60 plants. The seedlings were transplanted to the field at 330 days, at a spacing of 4.0 m x 3.5 m, constituting two trials, which were evaluated individually. The reproductive phenology of M. ilicifolia was evaluated in 2018, 2019 and 2020, using the presence/absence of flowering and fruiting method, quantified by the activity index (AI), which expresses the percentage of individuals that manifested the events in each sampling. The analyzes were carried out directly and monthly, between the months of August and December of each year. The first reproductive phenology of the species occurred 22 months after planting. The flowering activity index was more intense than the fruiting activity index during the three reproductive periods analyzed, but it is still incipient to infer about the action of biostimulants, in view of the presence of two floral types with characteristics that may have influenced the results found. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the floral typology of each cultivated individual to better understand the reproductive dynamics of the species in the study area and confirm possible effects of biostimulants.

RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a fenologia reprodutiva em um plantio de Monteverdia ilicifolia, cujas mudas foram produzidas com Trichoderma e vermicomposto, visando identificar o momento em que ocorre a mudança para a fase adulta reprodutiva da espécie e possíveis efeitos dos bioestimulantes no desenvolvimento reprodutivo das plantas. A semeadura foi realizada em tubetes de 180 cm³ de volume em casa de vegetação em novembro de 2015. Para o ensaio com Trichoderma spp., foram testadas três cepas não-comerciais (cepas T1 e T2: Trichoderma asperelloides; T10: Trichoderma virens) inoculadas em substrato comercial e um tratamento sem Trichoderma (controle), constituindo quatro tratamentos com cinco repetições cada, totalizando 20 plantas. Para o ensaio com vermicomposto, foram testadas diferentes proporções de vermicomposto e solo não-estéril. Os percentuais de vermicomposto avaliados foram: 0; 20; 40; 50; 60 e 80% em relação ao solo não-estéril (tratamentos T0, T20, T40, T50, T60 e T80), sendo testadas dez repetições por tratamento, totalizando 60 plantas. O transplante das mudas para o campo ocorreu aos 330 dias, em espaçamento 4,0 m x 3,5 m, constituindo dois ensaios, os quais foram avaliados individualmente. A fenologia reprodutiva de M. ilicifolia foi avaliada em 2018, 2019 e 2020, pelo método presença/ausência de floração e frutificação, quantificados pelo índice de atividade (IA), que exprime o percentual de indivíduos que manifestaram os eventos em cada amostragem. As análises foram realizadas de forma direta e mensalmente, entre os meses de agosto a dezembro de cada ano. A primeira fenologia reprodutiva da espécie ocorreu 22 meses após o plantio. O índice de atividade de floração foi mais intenso que o índice de atividade de frutificação no decorrer dos três períodos reprodutivos analisados, mas ainda são incipientes para inferir sobre a ação dos bioestimulantes, tendo em vista a presença de dois tipos florais com características que podem ter influenciado nos resultados encontrados. Por isso, é necessário avaliar a tipologia floral de cada indivíduo cultivado para compreender melhor a dinâmica reprodutiva da espécie na área de estudo e confirmar possíveis efeitos dos bioestimulantes.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the ability of Trichoderma asperellum isolates and their culture filtrates to control Lasiodiplodia theobromae in vivo and to promote the growth of pecan seedlings. Two experiments were carried out, both in a greenhouse. In the first experiment, the aerial part of the plants was sprayed by biological control treatments and, 14 days later, the pathogen was inoculated into the stem, through injury. In the second experiment, the substrate was moistened with biological control treatments and 14 days later the pathogen was inoculated following the same methodology as the first experiment. The following parameters were evaluated: length of the aerial part, stem diameter, fresh mass of the aerial part and the root, dry mass of the aerial part and the root, incidence and severity of the disease. The comparison of means was performed using the Skott-Knott test at a 5% probability of error, using the SISVAR software. In both experiments, the greatest responses were obtained in the growth parameters evaluated in the treatments with the culture filtrates and with the spore suspension in relation to the treatment inoculated with the pathogen without the use of biological control treatments. These treatments also reduced the incidence and severity of stem canker in pecan seedlings, and the best treatment varied with the form of application. The isolates of T. asperellum and the culture filtrates stimulated the initial growth of the plants, decreasing the incidence and severity of stem canker in pecan plants, regardless of the form of application.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a ação de isolados de Trichoderma asperellum e de seus filtrados de cultura no controle de Lasiodiplodia theobromae in vivo e na promoção do crescimento de mudas de nogueira-pecã. Foram desenvolvidos dois experimentos, ambos em casa de vegetação. No primeiro experimento, a parte aérea das plantas foi aspergida pelos tratamentos de controle biológico e 14 dias após foi inoculado o patógeno no caule, por meio de ferimento. No segundo experimento, o substrato foi umedecido com os tratamentos de controle biológico e 14 dias após foi feita a inoculação do patógeno seguindo mesma metodologia do primeiro experimento. Foram avaliados os seguintes parâmetros: comprimento da parte aérea, diâmetro do caule, massa fresca da parte aérea e da raiz, massa seca da parte aérea e da raiz, incidência e severidade da doença. A comparação das médias foi realizada pelo teste de Skott-Knott a 5% de probabilidade de erro, com o software SISVAR. Nos dois experimentos, obtiveram-se as maiores respostas nos parâmetros de crescimento avaliados nos tratamentos com os filtrados de cultura e com a suspensão de esporos, em relação ao tratamento inoculado com o patógeno sem o uso dos tratamentos de controle biológico. Esses tratamentos também reduziram a incidência e a severidade do cancro do tronco em mudas de nogueira-pecã, sendo que o melhor tratamento variou com a forma de aplicação. Os isolados de T. asperellum e os filtrados de cultura estimularam o crescimento inicial das plantas, diminuíram a incidência e a severidade do cancro do tronco nas plantas de nogueira-pecã, independente da forma de aplicação.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth in plant height, stem base diameter, survival rate, and ecophysiology of Acacia mangium and Mimosa caesalpiniifolia plants with and without inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Rhizophagus clarus) in areas degraded by mining in the municipality of Itaporanga D’Ajuda, SE, Brazil. The experiment was conducted with plants grown with spacing of 3 × 3 m in areas degraded by sand and gravel mining in Itaporanga D’Ajuda, using plants of the species Acacia mangium and Mimosa caesalpiniifolia. Four treatments were used: Acacia mangium without AMF; Mimosa caesalpiniifolia without AMF; Acacia mangium with AMF; Mimosa caesalpiniifolia with AMF. Plants from each treatment were evaluated for plant height, stem base diameter, survival rate and ecophysiological parameters at 12 months after planting. The forest legume Mimosa caesalpiniifolia inoculated with mycorrhizal fungi (Rhizophagus clarus) presented the best results in plant height, survival rate, and photosynthetic efficiency, at twelve months after planting. Plants in the treatment with Acacia mangium without inoculation with mycorrhizal fungi (Rhizophagus clarus) had the largest stem base diameters and second highest plant heights. However, the lowest survival rate of the plants may have caused overestimation of the results of stem base diameter and plant height.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o crescimento em altura, diâmetro, a taxa de sobrevivência e a ecofisiologia de Acacia mangium e Mimosa caesalpiniifolia inoculadas com fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (Rhizophagus clarus) e sem inoculação em área degradada de mineração no município de Itaporanga D’Ajuda, SE. O experimento foi implantado no espaçamento de 3x3 m em uma área degradada por mineração de areia e cascalhos no município de Itaporanga D’Ajuda, SE com as espécies Acacia mangium (Acacia) e Mimosa caesalpiniifolia (Sabiá). Foram definidos quatro tratamentos: Acacia mangium sem FMA; Mimosa caesalpiniifolia sem FMA; Acacia mangium com FMA; Mimosa caesalpiniifolia com FMA. As plantas de cada tratamento foram avaliadas quanto à altura da planta, diâmetro da base do caule, taxa de sobrevivência e parâmetros ecofisiológicos aos 12 meses após o plantio, utilizando 5 plantas selecionadas ao acaso por tratamento. Doze meses após o plantio conclui-se: a leguminosa florestal Mimosa caesalpiniifolia inoculada com fungos micorrízicos Rhizophagus clarus apresentou os melhores resultados em altura, taxa de sobrevivência e eficiência fotossintética. A Acacia mangium sem inoculação com fungos micorrízicos Rhizophagus clarus teve o maior diâmetro e a segunda maior altura. Porém a menor taxa de sobrevivência pode ter superestimado os resultados de diâmetro e altura.

ABSTRACT Forest fires have affected large areas in different regions of the planet. The emission of gases during these accidents is the cause of several problems to the health of the combatants and the population in general. Thus, the aim of the present study was to analyze and quantify polluting gases and particulate materials emitted during the occurrence of forest fires in different types of biomass and the correlation with the possible health problems of the brigadiers. For this purpose, fires in eucalyptus, pine, teak and pasture biomass were simulated in an experimental table in the south of the state of Espírito Santo. With a portable gas detector, CH4, CO, CO2, NH3 and H2S gases released during the combustion process were captured and analyzed. Using the remaining ash, the size of the particulate materials was measured. To determine the influence of materials on the release of gases, a completely randomized design and the Tukey test at 5% probability were applied. The burning of pasture biomass resulted in a greater release of CO (796.52 ppm), CO2 (490.52 ppm) NH3 (32.58 ppm). Therefore, it is concluded that the particulate materials emitted by the treatments of the present study were larger than those indicated as inhalable by humans, in relation to the damage to human health, it is concluded that the burning of pasture and eucalyptus biomass are the most harmful. The results elucidated the importance of the use of PPE's by the combatants and all those directly involved with forest fires.

RESUMO Os incêndios florestais têm afetado grandes áreas em diversas regiões do planeta. A emissão de gases durante esses sinistros se configura como a causa de diversos problemas à saúde dos combatentes e da população em geral. Assim, objetivou-se, com o presente estudo, a análise e quantificação dos gases poluentes e dos materiais particulados emitidos durante a ocorrência de incêndios florestais em diferentes tipos de biomassa e a correlação com os possíveis problemas à saúde dos brigadistas. Para tal, foram simulados incêndios em biomassa de eucalipto, pinus, teca e pastagem, em uma mesa experimental no Sul do Estado do Espírito Santo. Com um detector de gases portátil, foram captados e analisados os gases CH4, CO, CO2, NH3 e H2S liberados durante o processo de combustão. Com o uso das cinzas remanescentes, mensurou-se o tamanho dos materiais particulados. Para a determinação da influência dos materiais na liberação dos gases, foram aplicados o delineamento inteiramente casualizado e o teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. A queima da biomassa de pastagem resultou na maior liberação de CO (796,52 ppm), CO2 (490,52 ppm) NH3 (32,58 ppm). Portanto conclui-se que, os materiais particulados emitidos pelos tratamentos do presente estudo apresentaram tamanhos superiores aos indicados como inaláveis pelos seres humanos, em relação aos danos à saúde humana, a queima da biomassa de pastagem e de eucalipto são as mais nocivas. Os resultados elucidaram a importância dos EPI’s para os combatentes e todos os envolvidos de diretamente com os incêndios florestais.

ABSTRACT Knowing the distribution and spatial pattern of species within a plant community is essential for planning conservation strategies and establishing sustainable management measures in forest formations, especially in Caatinga areas. In this sense, the aim of the study was to analyze the structure and spatial distribution of Pilosocereus pachycladus F. Ritter subsp. pernambucoensis (F. Ritter) in natural populations in areas of Caatinga and Brejo vegetation in the semi-arid region of Paraíba, in the municipalities of Bananeiras and Arara, respectively. In the study areas, 25 plots of 20 m x 20 m were demarcated, totaling a sample area of 10,000 m2 (1 ha). Within the plots, all individuals were labeled and the total height and circumference were measured at the base of the stem using a measuring tape. The spatial structure of the populations was obtained by collecting the geographic coordinate of each individual in each area and expressed through maps of spatial distribution. 61 specimens were sampled in the Caatinga of Bananeiras, with an absolute density of 61 ind.ha-1 and absolute frequency (FA) of 52%. 64 specimens were sampled in the Caatinga of Arara, with an absolute density of 64 ind.ha-1 and absolute frequency (FA) of 56%. The two populations were arranged in a cluster pattern (Pi = 3.74 and 3.47, respectively). P. pachycladus subsp. pernambucoensis of the two areas have a habit of aggregate growth and population structure with few regenerating individuals. Regional conservation actions for Cactaceae species in their habitat need to take these findings into account to ensure the survival of these species.

RESUMO Conhecer a distribuição e o padrão espacial de espécies dentro de uma comunidade vegetal é imprescindível para o planejamento de estratégias de conservação e estabelecer medidas de manejo sustentável em formações florestais, sobretudo em áreas de Caatinga. Nesse sentido, o objetivo do estudo foi analisar a estrutura e a distribuição espacial de Pilosocereus pachycladus F. Ritter subsp. pernambucoensis (F. Ritter) em populações naturais em áreas de Caatinga e de Brejo no Semiárido Paraibano, nos municípios de Bananeiras e Arara, respectivamente. Nas áreas de estudo, foram demarcadas 25 parcelas de 20 m x 20 m, totalizando uma área amostral de 10.000m2 (1 ha). Dentro das parcelas, todos os indivíduos foram etiquetados e a altura total e a circunferência foram auferidas ao nível da base do caule com auxílio de uma fita métrica. A estrutura espacial das populações foi obtida pela coleta da coordenada geográfica de cada indivíduo em cada área e expressa por meio de mapas de distribuição espacial. Foram amostrados 61 espécimes na Caatinga do município de Bananeiras, apresentando densidade absoluta de 61 ind.ha-1 e frequência absoluta (FA) de 52%. Foram amostrados 64 espécimes no bioma do município de Arara, apresentando densidade absoluta de 64 ind.ha-1 e frequência absoluta (FA) de 56%. As duas populações estavam dispostas em padrão de agrupamento (Pi = 3,74 e 3,47, respectivamente). Os indivíduos de P. pachycladus subsp. pernambucoensis das duas áreas possuem hábito de crescimento agregado e estrutura populacional com poucos indivíduos regenerantes. As ações regionais de conservação das espécies de Cactaceae em seu habitat precisam levar em consideração essas descobertas para garantir a sobrevivência dessas espécies.

ABSTRACT The cupuassu tree is one of the most frequent species in agroforestry systems, mainly in consortium with peach palm. However, there is few information regarding the management, spacing and studies of interactions between them The objective of this work was to evaluate the size and productive performance of the cupuassu tree, and the spatial variability of soil attributes in agroforestry system with peach palm. An agroforestry consortium composed of cupuassu, andiroba, peach palm and copaiba plants was selected, later divided into two modules, distinguished by the density of peach palm (32 plants per ha-1 and 64 plants per ha-1). In both, each component was selected and georeferenced, considering one cupuassu plant per repetition. Soil samples were collected in a mesh of double lines of 3 x 8 m every 9 meters, and the data were submitted to geostatistical analysis. The cupuassu tree variables were compared between the modules, by the t test (p<0.05); and according to their position in relation to the peach palm (in the row and between rows), by the F test (p<0.05). The soil attributes showed moderate spatial dependence, except organic matter, with weak dependence. The agroforestry system with cupuassu tree, andiroba, copaiba and peach palm (32 plants per ha-1) had better soil chemical attributes and produced more fruits than the intercropping with twice as much palm trees. The size of the cupuassu tree was not influenced by peach palm densities (p>0.05). However, between the rows of the peach palm, the height of the cupuassu plants is highest (p<0.05) and the fruit yield is 50% higher than that one of the cupuassu trees grown in the same row as the peach palm.

RESUMO O cupuaçuzeiro é uma das espécies de maior ocorrência em sistemas agroflorestais, principalmente em consórcios com a pupunheira. No entanto, há poucas informações referentes ao manejo, espaçamentos e estudos de interações entre as mesmas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o porte e o desempenho produtivo do cupuaçuzeiro, e a variabilidade espacial dos atributos do solo em sistema agroflorestal com pupunheira. Foi selecionado um consórcio agroflorestal composto por plantas de cupuaçu, andiroba, pupunha e copaíba, posteriormente dividido em dois módulos, distintos pela densidade de pupunheiras (32 plantas ha-1 e 64 plantas ha-1). Em ambos os módulos, foram selecionados e georreferenciados cada componente, considerando-se uma planta de cupuaçu por repetição. As amostras de solo foram coletadas em malha de linhas duplas de 3 x 8 m a cada 9 metros, e os dados submetidos à análise geoestatística. As variáveis do cupuaçuzeiro foram comparadas entre os módulos, pelo teste t (p<0,05); e conforme sua posição em relação à pupunheira (na linha e entrelinha), pelo teste F (p<0,05). Os atributos do solo apresentaram dependência espacial moderada, exceto matéria orgânica, com fraca dependência. O sistema agroflorestal com cupuaçuzeiro, andiroba, copaíba e pupunheira: com 32 plantas ha-1, apresentou melhores atributos químicos de solo e produziu mais frutos que o consórcio com o dobro de palmáceas. O porte do cupuaçuzeiro não foi influenciado pelas densidades da pupunheira (p>0,05), no entanto, nas entrelinhas da pupunheira, a altura das plantas de cupuaçu é maior (p<0,05) e a produtividade de frutos é 50% maior que a dos cupuaçuzeiros cultivados na mesma linha da pupunheira.

ABSTRACT The Caatinga biome has plant and animal species that have developed mechanisms that allow them to resist the edaphoclimatic conditions of the region. Therefore, this work identified the phytosociological composition of a fragment of caatinga forest located at the rural community of Mocambo de Baixo, in the municipality of Patos-PB, Brazil, and analyzed the potentialities of the tree component by means of a forest inventory, considering the density, frequency, dominance, cover and importance values of the tree species, and the Shannon-Weaver and the Pielou equability index values of the adult and regenerating tree communities. A total of 1402 individuals were found: 534 adult, 510 regenerating and 358 dead plants. There were 10 species, 10 genera and 06 families of adult individuals, and 08 species, 08 genera and 05 families for the regenerating plants. The most expressive botanical families of adult or regenerating plants were Apocynaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Fabaceae. Densities of 953.7 and 910.7 ind.ha-1 were found for adult and regenerant plants, respectively. The highest values of tree cover and importance were estimated for Aspidosperma pyrifolium. The Shannon- Waever and the Pielou equability index values were 1.38 and 0.60, respectively. Adult individuals were most abundant in class I for diameter (1.9 cm < D < 4.4 cm) and height (1.4 m < H < 3.4 m), and regeneranting plants were most abundant in class II (H > 1 m). The estimated volume of stacked wood averaged approximately 38 st.ha-1..

RESUMO O bioma Caatinga possui espécies vegetais e animais que desenvolveram mecanismos que as permitem resistir às condições edafoclimáticas da região. Diante disso, este trabalho identificou a composição florística de um fragmento de uma floresta de Caatinga na comunidade rural Mocambo de Baixo, município de Patos – PB, Brasil, e analisou as potencialidades do componente vegetal arbóreo através de inventário florestal, considerando os parâmetros de densidade, frequência, dominância, valor de cobertura e valor de importância das espécies arbóreas, e os índices de diversidade de Shannon-Weaver e de equabilidade de Pielou das comunidades de indivíduos adultos e regenerantes de espécies arbóreas. Foi constatado um total de 1402 indivíduos: 534 adultos, 510 regenerantes e 358 mortos. Foram verificadas 10 espécies, 10 gêneros e 06 famílias de indivíduos adultos, e 08 espécies, 08 gêneros e 05 famílias para os regenerantes. As famílias botânicas com maior expressividade entre os indivíduos adultos ou regenerantes foram Apocynaceae, Euphorbiaceae e Fabaceae. Foram encontradas densidades de 953,7 e 910,7 ind.ha-1 para adultos e regenerantes, respectivamente. Os maiores valores de cobertura e de importância foram obtidos por Aspidosperma pyrifolium. Os valores estimados para os índices de Shannon-Weaver e de equabilidade de Pielou foram 1,38 e 0,60, respectivamente. Os indivíduos adultos se concentraram na classe I de diâmetro (1,9 cm < D < 4,4 cm) e altura (1,4 m < H < 3,4 m), e entre os regenerantes, a maior quantidade foi observada na classe II (H > 1 m). O valor estimado do volume empilhado médio de madeira foi de 38 st.ha-1.
